We had so much fun celebrating Matthew’s first birthday! I’m so excited to share all the details of the party! His theme was ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle (one of my favorite children’s book authors!)
Starting with the dessert table! We pulled all of the desserts from the book itself. I am so thankful for all the help we received for Matthew’s party. My mother-in-law made some of the fabulous desserts!
We had funfetti cupcakes, chocolate cake cups, swirly lollipops, mini cherry pies, and lemon cake cones that followed the theme of desserts in the book.
Behind the desserts, we displayed Matthew’s monthly milestone pictures. I had so much fun setting these up each month! It’s bittersweet to see how he has grown!
For the food, we decided to keep it simple! Sandwiches, chips, spinach dip, pasta salad, all going with the theme!
We ordered his smash cake from a local baker, Nora Bee Cakes & Sweets, and she did an amazing job! We loved how it turned out! Also, she made it vegan since we found out Matthew has a dairy allergy, it tasted so good!
In Korean culture, a child’s first birthday celebration is called a Dol. During the celebration, the child is placed in front of various objects that have different meanings. Whatever the child picks reveals their future!
Matthew had a book (scholar), a ball (athletic), a paintbrush (artistic), money (prosperous), yarn (longevity), and a piano (musical).
He picked… the piano!
We had a beautiful green garland behind Matthew’s high chair during the cake eating. Made by I Dew Flowers. I was so simple and perfect!
All the details were so simple and special for our son’s big day! We are so thankful God chose us to take care of this fun and charming boy! We love him so much!
What an adorable 1st birthday party! That cake, wow, beautiful job. That hungry little caterpillar is awesome.
